In PranaVayu Yoga,we use variations of Surya Yantrasana (the sundial pose) and various spinal twists to release tension after backbends. From a sequencing perspective, I think that you’ll find that taking time to integrate a side bending pose into your practice before you twist will help to lengthen all of the muscles of the side body which in turn will make any twisting pose that you practice easier to accomplish.
Placing the foot in the half lotus makes this posture substantially more challenging. If choosing that foot position is too much you can always modify by drawing the lots foot to the inner thigh instead.
